2nd International Symposium on Grammatical Variation and the Construction of Meaning

As previously announced on this website, the 2nd International Symposium on Grammatical Variation and the Construction of Meaning (VARISIG2) will take place at Universidad de Salamanca (Spain) during May 8 and 9. The goal of the event is to bring together a group of international experts on variation in language, chiefly at the morphosyntactic and discourse levels, who explicitly consider the connections between formal choice and the various levels of meaning including the semantic, pragmatic and sociostylistic ones. These are indeed the main concerns of the line of research developed by the CoSoLen group over the years.

The Symposium will feature an opening plenary talk by Ricardo Otheguy (The City University of New York) and a closing one by María José Serrano (Universidad de La Laguna), as well as 22 ordinary presentations and a round table on the present and the future of grammatical variation studies. The final versions of the program and the abstract booklet can be accessed at the Symposium’s official website.
